My husband and I run a small fiber and homestead farm that we hope to certify organic. In the beautiful northcountry of Minnesota, we raise llamas, icelandic sheep, angora rabbits and assorted other pets. Our faith in God and love for nature have led us to support local, environmentally friendly products and programs. We endeaver to make as little impact on the environment as possible and so are converting over to wind and solar power for our farm. Our animals are raised without the use of antibiotics, chemicals or other unsafe treatments and are allowed free access to pasture. Whenever possible, we feed only certified organic grains to our animals, purchased from the Buckwheat Growers organic feed co-op.
Both animals and fiber are for sale from our flocks. The fiber, and products I have made from the fiber, are harvested, washed and processed by hand using only natural methods. I harvest the Icelandic wool by plucking the sheep when they naturally shed in the spring, the llamas are sheared with hand shears and the rabbits are plucked when their coats are ripe (ready to naturally shed). The fibers are washed with a natural detergent that uses a vegetable base instead of petroleum and most dyes, when used, are natural plant dyes with safe mordants. If you have any questions concerning the methods used please feel free to contact us.
